First murder mystery a roaring success!

(November 15, 2022, Fort McMurray, AB) This past Saturday, local non-profit theatre company Swamp Rat Experience (SRE) partnered with Surekha’s on the Snye to transport guests to the roaring 1920s where they dined, danced and solved the mystery of who don’ the dirty on Toni Maroni in the murder mystery Great Gatsby! It’s Murder! by Rachel Paul.

One guest called it “the best event that I have EVER seen in Fort McMurray, just wow. I am blown away!”

This sold-out event was part of SRE’s mission to explore new ways to create theatre in Wood Buffalo and to invite audiences to experience performing arts outside conventional theatre venues.

Great Gatsby! It’s Murder! was all about innovation and play” says SRE Artistic Director Hanna Fridhed. “Through our partnership with Surekha’s we were able to give the audience an interactive evening that was immersive and innovative - it definitely ‘put on the Ritz’! This was a fully local production, from the Artistic Team to the performers in the space. We’re consistently blown away by the talent in our region.”

SRE invites performers of all experience levels (from completely brand new to seasoned professionals) to audition for their upcoming dinner theatre production for Waypoints on December 9-10, 2022. Great Gatsby! It’s Murder! was made possible through generous sponsorship by FM Homes Coldwell Banker, FMM Law, and Jenna Buffett Photography, as well as in-kind support by Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts, and Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre. The audience was treated to draw prizes donated by Velenzia Fashion, The Flower Studio in Thickwood, and Chocolates & Candlelight.
